Why we love organic cotton clothing

There are so many decisions to make when preparing for a baby’s arrival, particularly when it comes to ensuring their overall health and wellbeing. The amount of information out there can be overwhelming and, at times, downright confusing too! So, when it comes to choosing what to dress your new baby in, we wanted to keep it simple. We love organic cotton clothing and accessories, and these are our top 3 reasons why:

  1. Organic cotton is a safe option for baby’s sensitive skin

Organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms, so its by-products are free of nasties that could otherwise be absorbed into a baby’s thinner, more vulnerable skin. In terms of providing peace of mind, organic baby clothing is becoming a highly popular choice for new parents. And the great news is, it is more accessible than ever before and at affordable price points too! You can check out our beautiful range, which is certified organic under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), here.

  1. It is highly versatile and functional

Because organic cotton is a natural fibre, it is suitable for wear across all four seasons which we LOVE. In warmer weather, the weave effect of cotton clothing can wick away moisture and ventilate air. This prevents overheating and keeps bubs cool and comfortable. However, the same weaving that allows for breathability also helps retain warmth, so organic cotton garments are perfect for layering in cooler weather to keep your little one nice and cosy too! Babies are not able to regulate their body temperature the way that older children and adults do, which is why it is ideal to have adaptable comfy clothing options for them at all times.

  1. It is better for the environment

While protecting baby’s skin with safe and versatile clothing is a big drawcard – we also love organic cotton because it has a far less severe impact on the environment. The seeds used are not treated with fungicides or insecticides and it takes less energy and water to farm. In fact, to be certified as organic cotton, it cannot be farmed using any artificial matter at all which results in fewer greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere. So, when you buy organic, you are not only protecting your baby, you are also doing your bit for the future of the planet. It’s a win-win for everyone!

So, there you have it! While organic cotton clothing may not take over your baby’s full wardrobe, having a few staple pieces on hand (particularly for under layers) will ensure that their precious skin is protected and snug as often as possible. If you would like to read more about the GOTS certification process you can do so here.

As always, even with organic cotton, it is important to wash and dry all clothes before dressing baby in them. This will ensure that any residue is removed which further supports the nurturing of baby’s sensitive skin. The Fauve + Co organic cotton range covers all your essential baby clothing needs, from rompers, to bodysuits, to beanies and headbands. They all come in a range of gorgeous earthy tones and are pretty darn cute, even if we do say so ourselves!
